Grading

Taking A Belt Test

To grade to your next belt, there are certain requirements you need to meet. 1. You need to be a licenced member of TSKR. 2. You must be meeting your lesson requirements. Make sure you attend the specified amount of lessons for the belt your going for. (see your grading syllabus for requirements) 3. You must be able to perform all techniques within your syllabus. This is written on your training record card and here on this website. Try looking at our Syllabus Page and Terminology Page 4 You will need to pay for each grading at £30 per person. You will be given an examination on your karate by the TSKR Examing Panel headed by 5th Dan Chief Instructor Terry Wittkopp. You will also receive a high quality nationally recognised Grading Certificate and a your new belt. To gain a grade, we are not expecting 100% pass rate. Remember there are 3 elements to grade. The panel will expect you know 2 of the elements competently and a 3rd reasonably well. For a pass, we are looking for you to know at least 75% of your syllabus. If we feel that you need more time we will not pass and you will have to retake the grading again at the next official grading. Or we may ask you to practice the section you were weakest in and return within two weeks to be awarded your grade. Note: we will not fail under 10yrs of age and may offer a half grade. A belt with a coloured stripe. All grades are given a Pass Credit or Distinction based on the level of competence during the grading.

At the grading?

There is a training session before the grading, you should try to attend this. It will help you settle the nerves and also warm you up.After training, you will be allowed a short break before the grading starts. You will be grading with others of the same grade. The panel will call you up by grade order, in groups and ask you to complete the sections of your grade requirements which will be Kihon Kata and Kumite Don't worry if it is your first time, we want to help you get through. You will be guided by familiar friendly faces.

During your grading

You should sit down and maintain a silence whilst every student grades.
Results announced at the end when everyone is asked to line up.
If successful, you will be given your new belt, your blue TSKR licence book and your new training record card.
You will also receive an official TSKR Certificate.
